Research interests

Frans Melissen (1971) attained his Msc and Phd degrees (Industrial Engineering and Management Science) from Eindhoven University of Technology, where he also worked as a student counsellor and lecturer/researcher. Subsequently, he joined the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Groningen as an associate professor. In 2006 he started his career at NHTV’s Academy of Hotel and Facility Management and he is the Academy’s Professor of Sustainable Business Models.

His research focuses on the link between sustainable development and human behaviour, with special emphasis on mitigating the social dilemma by means of sustainable business models. Frans has authored and co-authored a number of papers in refereed journals, presented at various conferences, and has (co-)edited/(co-)authored and contributed chapters to various (text) books. Frans is also the Scientific Director of the JPI Urban Europe research project Smart City Hospitality (SCITHOS).

Areas of expertise: Sustainable Business Models, Sustainability Intelligence, Sustainable Development, Consumer Behaviour, Hospitality Experiences, City Hospitality.
